Dr. Robert SmithDr. Robert M. Smith has held posts at Wichita State University, the University of Tennessee at Martin, Slippery Rock University, and the University of Tennessee System. He is known for assisting universities in crises. While President of Slippery Rock University, he facilitated a twenty-two percent increase in enrollment and improved its national academic reputation. The university also experienced historical increases in retention and graduation rates. An early adopter of performance metrics, Dr. Smith led Slippery Rock University to be a model for analytical data-driven decision-making. As Chancellor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, he is credited with leading UTM through historical turnarounds in financial, enrollment, fund-raising, and accreditation obstacles as well as producing record retention and graduation rates.

A facilitator for AACRAO’s Presidential Seminars on Strategic Enrollment Management, Dr. Smith has also been the senior faculty member in four executive development programs, including NACUBO’s Collegiate Management Business Institute. He is currently the University of Tennessee President’s Advisor for Executive Talent and Leadership Development.
