Dr. J. Carlos Hernandez retired as CFO and Sr. Vice President for Operations from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) May 2022. He joined SHSU in March 2014. Before coming to SHSU, he served as CFO and Vice President for Administration at the University of North Texas at Dallas. His experience also includes work at UNT System, UNT Denton, and UT El Paso. Dr. Hernandez started his higher education career as an accountant with UTEP and has spent his entire 34 year career in Texas public higher education serving in various leadership roles within 4 universities and 3 university systems. He has also worked with national and regional professional organizations in the development of accounting, investment and operational policy and guidance.
