Prior to serving as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Brockport (2018-2021) Dr. Katy Heyning served in multiple progressive leadership positions at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater (1999-2018) including nine years as the Dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies. Here she led the College through curricular revisions in all undergraduate and graduate programming, reducing credits to degree and initiated a new Administrative Fellowship Program to mentor and increase leadership opportunities for faculty. During her tenure as Provost at SUNY Brockport, Dr. Heyning led the division through the creation and implementation of a new strategic plan and developed new equity, diversity and inclusion guiding principles to support and develop divisional leadership and professional growth. She also helped create and lead the SUNY PRODiG Fellows program to increase the number of diverse faculty and women in STEM fields across the SUNY System.

Dr. Heyning’s primary teaching and research expertise centers on the university/state relationship in times of reform, and the history, reform and change of teacher education across America.
