OVERVIEW

Dr. Nancy A. Gutierrez served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for 17 years. Immediately prior to coming to UNC Charlotte, she served in several administrative positions at Arizona State University: chair, associate dean for academic personnel, and vice provost for academic affairs.

Throughout her career, Gutierrez has been a strong advocate for the liberal arts and sciences, creating opportunities for students to bring their academic interests into the workplace, promoting and publicizing faculty research and expertise in the community, and advancing interdisciplinarity as a key characteristic of the liberal arts. She has also been a strong faculty advocate, relying on shared governance for curricular innovation and organizational redesign.
